The mill I have from Crank is good, but the two I have from Monster are better. Motorize it and you can go through a sack of malt in a minute. The hopper with the Monster is a nice addition, but you could build one if you are crafty. Get the three roller as mentioned by kds.

If you choose to buy a base instead, the bases available from Monster Mills fit the Kegco exactly. You'll need 6mm bolts as the Kegco is threaded metric. You need a drill with a 1/2" chuck as 3/8 wont fit the drive shaft. I went with a 49 HF drill and burned it up using it between the Kegco and a Corona mill.

There is also the 3 roller mill! On a 3 roller mill, a single roller sits below the top two rollers adding an extra step to remove the hard ends of under modified malts from the husk. All the grist falls through the third roller. Because of this 3 roller mills are more like 4 roller mills. Adding extra rollers does not mean more extract.

My understanding is that a 3 mill roller is more beneficial for sparge brewing (or if recirculating during the mash). That it helps to get a good crush while keeping more of the husk intact. Toward the top of my shopping list is a replacement mill. I will likely be looking for a geared 2 roller mill and will try to avoid Chinese made mills.

As I stated above, this purchase is more of a want than a need. I already own a fixedgap Schmidling Malt Mill. I like the look of the 3roller mill crush. A 3roller mill definitely leaves more husk material in tact than a 2roller mill, which a big plus when continuous sparging. Plus, today was the last day to take advantage of NHC show pricing.

The 3roller mill has several advantages and few disadvantages. It has greater output than a 2roller model running at the same RPM. It provides less husk damage, which aids in sparging. Also, the 3roller mill more fully separates the starch from the husk, while providing superior grain feed, even with wheat.

I believe the drive roller turns the bottom roller, so the bottom roller turns the opposite of the drive roller, as the grain path is b/w the drive roller and the bottom roller. The bottom roller gap is set off the drive roller, this is critical! This video may help you assuming similar to monster 3 roller mill.
